Bengaluru. In Karnataka, police managed to trace an 18-year-old girl who had been missing for more than seven months with the help of an OTP linked to her Aadhaar details. The girl had gone missing from Bengaluru’s Vidyaranyapura area on January 31. Police recovered her earlier this week from a village in Kanakapura taluk, where she had been living with her husband. A senior CID officer said that the girl is pregnant.
According to police, the girl had left home on January 31, telling her family that she was going to college. A minor friend had accompanied her. When they left home, both girls carried only their Aadhaar cards and college bags. They did not have mobile phones or any other belongings with them.
During the investigation, police discovered that the two girls had initially travelled to Male Mahadeshwara Hills. They later went their separate ways. For a long time, investigators were unable to find any trace of the girl.
The girl’s parents had filed a habeas corpus petition in the Karnataka High Court. Following the court’s directions, the CID took over the investigation in April. Investigators then continued the probe based on the girl’s movements and available documentary information.
According to the officer, investigators learned earlier this week that the girl had recently used information linked to her Aadhaar. During the process, she had provided her husband’s mobile number to receive the OTP. Using this digital lead, police were able to trace her location.
Police eventually located the girl in a village in Kanakapura taluk. The investigation is still underway, and authorities have not shared any further details at this stage.
