Union Home Minister Amit Shah has made a major statement regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). He said that before the next Lok Sabha elections, scheduled for 2029, the UCC will be implemented in the 21 states governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Shah said the government is steadily moving towards establishing a uniform legal framework across the country.
The Home Minister said that the central government has taken an important step towards ensuring equal rights for Muslim women by abolishing instant triple talaq. He claimed that the UCC has already been implemented in several states and expressed confidence that the target of implementing it in 21 states would be achieved before the next Lok Sabha elections.
Praise for PM Modi’s Leadership
Amit Shah also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He said that the Modi government has worked to move the country beyond the long-standing issue of “policy paralysis.” According to Shah, the government has focused on development, reforms, and strengthening India’s overall governance framework.
He said that the government’s initiatives are aimed at creating a stronger and more unified legal and administrative system while advancing the country’s development agenda.
The proposed nationwide implementation of the UCC remains an important political and legal issue in India. While supporters argue that a common set of personal laws would promote equality and uniformity, critics have raised concerns about its implications for religious and cultural practices.
Shah’s latest remarks indicate that the UCC is likely to remain a major policy and political priority for the NDA ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
