U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States was prepared to launch what he described as the “biggest attack since World War II” against Iran, but the operation was halted after Iranian officials allegedly sought last-minute negotiations. Speaking at a public event in Las Vegas, Trump said Iran reached out shortly before the planned military action and urged the United States to suspend the operation in favour of diplomatic talks. According to Trump, the prospect of a major U.S. military strike prompted Tehran to seek negotiations.
“They called me and said, ‘Please don’t do it. Let’s talk,'” Trump said, while maintaining that the United States was fully prepared for a large-scale military operation.
