Fake Diamond Made in Surat Swapped for Real ₹1.5 Crore Gem in Singapore; Two Indians Arrested at Airport

A fake diamond manufactured in Surat, India, was allegedly used in a high-profile diamond swapping fraud worth SGD 245,000 (approximately ₹1.5 crore) in Singapore. Two Indian nationals have been sentenced in connection with the case. However, before they could leave the country, they were arrested by Singapore authorities at the airport.

Fake Diamond Prepared in Surat

According to reports, 41-year-old Manohar Manohar Kumar Krishnan and 30-year-old Rosriya Milan Ranikmikh worked together to execute the fraud. Before traveling to Singapore, they allegedly had a fake diamond made in Surat that matched the real diamond in size, shape, and appearance.

How the Fraud Was Carried Out

On 19 June 2026, the two suspects visited the Diamonche Jewellery Store located on Orchard Road in Singapore. Krishnan distracted the store manager by asking to see several diamonds, while his accomplice secretly replaced a 4.95-carat real diamond with the fake one and returned it to the display tray.

Caught Through CCTV Footage

After leaving the store, the suspects attempted to purchase a watch from another shop. During a routine inspection, the watch store manager noticed something suspicious and informed the jewellery store. Security personnel reviewed the CCTV footage and confirmed that the diamond had been swapped, after which police were alerted.

Reached the Airport but Failed to Escape

Following the investigation, both suspects checked out of their hotel and headed to the airport to board a flight back to India. However, at around 8:50 PM, Singapore police arrested them during immigration clearance at the departure terminal. The stolen real diamond was recovered during the search.

One Convicted, Other Still Facing Trial

The court sentenced Manohar Manohar Kumar Krishnan to 2 years, 2 months, and 2 weeks in prison after he pleaded guilty to theft. Proceedings against the second accused are still ongoing.
