Akhil was the only son in his family and a major source of financial support. His father runs an electronics shop, while his mother is a homemaker. The family had high hopes for his career and future.

The family was informed of his death by the shipping company. Efforts are now underway to bring his mortal remains back to India, with the assistance of NORKA (Non-Resident Keralites Affairs Department) and the Ministry of External Affairs.

According to foreign media reports, the missile strike hit the cargo vessel shortly after it departed from Odesa Port. The attack reportedly killed 10 crew members, while eight others survived. The ship sustained significant damage.
