Amid the long-standing border tensions between India and China, significant information has emerged regarding the deployment of Chinese troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). According to the Ministry of Defence, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) reduced its deployment in areas along India’s northern border during 2025. The development is being viewed as a possible indication of reduced tensions along the border and a gradual improvement in relations between the two countries.
According to the Ministry of Defence, around 10 units equivalent to combined arms brigades remained deployed in areas along the LAC and in China’s traditional training zones. However, despite the reduction in Chinese troop numbers, India has not lowered its military preparedness along the border.
Indian Army Remains Fully Prepared Along the LAC
The Ministry said that Indian Army deployments across all sectors of the LAC remain strong and appropriately positioned. The forces continue to be fully prepared to respond to any sudden or unforeseen situation along the border.
Border tensions between India and China had escalated in recent years because of disputes in several areas, including eastern Ladakh. Both countries had deployed large numbers of troops and significant military resources along the frontier.
Against this backdrop, the reported reduction in China’s PLA deployment is being closely watched. While it could indicate a degree of de-escalation, India’s continued military preparedness reflects the strategic importance of maintaining a strong defensive posture along the LAC.
The latest development is therefore being seen as a potentially positive signal for India-China relations, although the broader situation along the border will continue to depend on diplomatic engagement, military confidence-building measures, and developments on the ground.
