Mumbai: The Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026 has been postponed after police uncovered an alleged question paper leak just a day before the scheduled examination. According to investigators, the accused were allegedly planning to sell the leaked examination paper for nearly ₹1.5 crore, prompting authorities to cancel the exam to protect its integrity.

The Maharashtra TET examination was scheduled to be conducted on June 28, 2026, across more than a thousand examination centres in the state. Acting on intelligence inputs, the Bhiwandi Police launched an operation and arrested three suspects allegedly connected to the paper leak racket. Officials added that the investigation is continuing and more arrests are likely.

During a media briefing, Additional Commissioner of Police (Bhiwandi) Ashok Dudhe said the police acted swiftly after receiving credible information from informants. Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused had planned to sell the leaked question paper in exchange for approximately ₹1.5 crore.

The Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) has assured candidates that a new examination date will be announced after the investigation progresses. Fresh admit cards will be issued for the rescheduled examination, while officials have clarified that there is no indication of any change in the examination pattern.

The alleged paper leak has sparked widespread concern among lakhs of aspirants preparing for teacher recruitment examinations. Opposition leaders have criticised the incident and demanded strict action against those responsible, while the Maharashtra government has assured that all individuals involved will face stringent legal action.

Authorities have appealed to candidates to rely only on official announcements regarding the revised examination schedule and avoid misinformation circulating on social media. The police investigation is expected to examine the wider network behind the alleged leak, including possible interstate connections.
