Under the LIC Bima Sakhi scheme, eligible women can work as Mahila Career Agents after completing the prescribed selection and regulatory requirements. According to LIC’s current information, applicants must generally be at least 18 years old and have passed Class 10 or higher, subject to the applicable eligibility conditions.
The scheme provides a stipend for the first three years, subject to prescribed performance conditions. LIC currently lists monthly stipends of ₹7,000 in the first year, ₹6,000 in the second year and ₹5,000 in the third year, along with commission on policies sold, subject to the scheme’s terms and conditions.
Importantly, Bima Sakhi is not a salaried government or LIC employee position. Participants continue as insurance agents under the applicable rules and regulations.
Strong Growth of the Bima Sakhi Initiative
The programme has already seen significant participation. According to LIC’s corporate presentation, 3.45 lakh Mahila Career Agents had been appointed since the launch of the scheme up to March 31, 2026, while Bima Sakhis had sold 21.94 lakh policies and generated approximately ₹2,848.36 crore in New Business Premium. LIC also reported that a substantial share of policies and premium came from rural areas.
The scheme was launched on December 9, 2024, with the objective of expanding employment opportunities for women and strengthening their participation in the insurance sector.
