Preparations for the 18th BRICS Summit, scheduled to be held in New Delhi on September 12 and 13, have entered their final stage. Several prominent world leaders are arriving in India to participate in the summit. Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Delhi late on September 11, while Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to arrive at Air Force Station Palam at 12:25 PM on September 12.
The BRICS Summit is taking place at a time when the world is facing geopolitical tensions, trade challenges, energy and food security concerns, and disruptions involving critical supply chains. Discussions at the summit are expected to cover global governance, multilateralism, trade, investment, technology, healthcare and disaster management.
On September 12, the summit will begin at 2:35 PM with a closed-door meeting of the leaders of BRICS member countries. The key focus of the session will be strengthening inclusive global governance and multilateralism.
At 4:25 PM, the leaders will visit the “India Innovates Exhibition.” This will be followed by an official family photograph and a joint tree-planting ceremony at 5:05 PM. At 7:30 PM, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host a dinner for the visiting foreign leaders.
On September 13, leaders from member countries, partner nations and invited guests are scheduled to arrive at 9:55 AM. A group photograph will be taken at 10:35 AM, followed by the main open session at 10:50 AM. The summit is expected to conclude with the adoption of the “New Delhi Declaration.”
Security arrangements have also been significantly tightened across Delhi ahead of the summit. Around 15,000 police personnel and 200 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed. More than 500 CCTV cameras are being used for surveillance. Bharat Mandapam will serve as the main venue for the two-day summit.
