BRICS Summit 2026: PM Modi Pauses Speech to Ask Xi Jinping, ‘Is Everything Okay?’

A humane and spontaneous moment involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi was witnessed on the first day of the BRICS Summit 2026. During the opening session, PM Modi briefly paused his speech and turned his attention toward Chinese President Xi Jinping, who appeared to be somewhat uncomfortable at the time.

Observing the situation, Prime Minister Modi asked the Chinese interpreter accompanying Xi Jinping, “Is everything okay?”

A short while later, PM Modi once again checked on Xi Jinping. However, it was not immediately clear why the Chinese President appeared uncomfortable. Initially, it was speculated that the issue could have been related to the microphone or the translation of Prime Minister Modi’s speech. No Immediate Official Response from China

China did not immediately issue any official statement regarding Xi Jinping’s apparent discomfort. Therefore, it cannot be conclusively determined what exactly was troubling the Chinese President at that moment.

The incident attracted attention because the entire world has been closely watching India-China relations. Amid the presence of the two countries’ top leaders at the BRICS platform, Prime Minister Modi’s attention toward Xi Jinping’s condition became a talking point.

Xi Jinping Visits India After Seven Years

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in India to attend the BRICS Summit, marking his return to the country after nearly seven years. During the summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Xi Jinping also held a bilateral meeting, during which they discussed India-China relations and future cooperation between the two countries.

40-Minute Bilateral Meeting Between Modi and Xi

During the BRICS Summit, Prime Minister Modi and Xi Jinping held discussions for approximately 40 minutes. The two leaders reportedly agreed that India and China should view their relationship from a strategic and long-term perspective.

Both sides also emphasized the importance of preventing existing differences between India and China from turning into disputes. They stressed the need to strengthen dialogue and cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit is being viewed as significant for India-China relations. However, there is currently no official information explaining the actual reason why Xi Jinping appeared uncomfortable during Prime Minister Modi’s speech.
