BRICS Declaration Condemns Pahalgam Terror Attack, BJP Calls It a Major Diplomatic Victory

New Delhi, Delhi

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has described the strong condemnation of the Pahalgam terror attack in the BRICS New Delhi Declaration as a major diplomatic achievement for India. Party leaders said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has firmly presented its position against terrorism on the international stage. Along with condemning terrorism in all its forms, the declaration also emphasized the need for greater global cooperation and sustainable development.

BJP leader Smriti Irani reacted to the New Delhi Declaration on social media platform X, describing it as an important step towards the development of BRICS and the ongoing rebalancing of the global order. She highlighted the need for greater representation in global institutions, stronger international cooperation, and a more prominent voice for the Global South.

According to Smriti Irani, India used the BRICS platform to make it clear that global institutions should become more representative, inclusive, and reflective of the interests of developing countries. She also emphasized the importance of placing development at the centre of international cooperation and giving greater consideration to the concerns of developing nations in global decision-making processes.

BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad also described the BRICS summit as a historic success. He said that under India’s leadership, BRICS is strengthening its role as an influential international platform. According to him, the prominence given to India’s concerns over serious global issues such as terrorism was a significant achievement.

BRICS includes several major countries, including China, Russia, Brazil, South Africa, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates, along with India. Therefore, the reference to the Pahalgam attack in the group’s declaration is being viewed as diplomatically significant for India.

India has long called for coordinated international action against terrorism. Following the Pahalgam terror attack, India also emphasized the need for stronger global cooperation against terrorism and concrete action against those responsible for supporting or carrying out such attacks.

BJP leaders have said that the New Delhi Declaration reflects India’s growing diplomatic influence. They argue that giving prominence to the issue of terrorism at a multilateral forum such as BRICS demonstrates India’s increasing effectiveness in shaping international discussions. The emphasis on development, global cooperation, and the priorities of the Global South has also been described as one of the key achievements of India’s BRICS leadership.
