FSUI demands investigation and compensation from UN into the death of sailors in the Persian Gulf

FSUI General Secretary Manoj Yadav has called for an immediate United Nations investigation into recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Persian Gulf. Speaking at a press conference, Yadav emphasized the urgent need to address the growing safety concerns for seafarers in this strategically significant region.
According to Yadav, the incidents involving commercial ships have not only endangered the lives of sailors but also disrupted international maritime trade routes. He urged the UN to take prompt action to determine the causes and hold responsible parties accountable.
“The safety of seafarers is paramount,” Yadav stated. “We urge the United Nations to immediately step in and conduct a thorough investigation, ensuring that such attacks do not recur and that victims receive appropriate compensation.”
The Federation of Seafarers’ Unions of India (FSUI) represents thousands of maritime workers who regularly navigate the perilous waters of the Persian Gulf. The region has witnessed a surge in hostile incidents, raising alarms among international shipping companies and governments alike.
Experts highlight that the Persian Gulf, a vital maritime corridor for global oil shipments, has become increasingly vulnerable to geopolitical tensions. These tensions have led to occasional confrontations, placing commercial vessels at risk.
Yadav’s call for a UN probe aligns with global demands for enhanced security measures and international cooperation to safeguard maritime commerce and the welfare of those who work at sea.
In recent months, the FSUI has documented multiple cases where seafarers were injured or lost their lives during suspicious attacks or clashes in the region. The union insists that these incidents require a neutral and comprehensive inquiry to uncover the truth and prevent future tragedies.
Furthermore, the FSUI is pressing for compensation packages for the families of deceased seafarers and for better protection protocols to be established by shipping companies and relevant authorities.
International maritime organizations and human rights groups have expressed support for these demands, stressing that the protection of seafarers is a global priority.
As the situation in the Persian Gulf remains volatile, the call from FSUI General Secretary Manoj Yadav underscores the need for urgent and coordinated international action to ensure the safety of all maritime workers and uphold the stability of vital trade routes.
