‘Why Has Professor Dula Not Been Arrested Yet?’ Sahil’s Father Raises Questions in IIT Bombay Suicide Case

Mumbai, Maharashtra

The parents of IIT Bombay student Sahil Wokade have questioned the delay in the arrest of the faculty members named in the case following their son’s death by suicide. Sahil’s father, Ravindra Wokade, and mother, Sonali Wokade, visited the Mumbai Crime Branch on Tuesday and demanded the immediate arrest of professors Suryanarayan Dula and Shirish Kedare, who have been named as accused in the case.

The family alleges that Sahil was subjected to caste-based discrimination and harassment, which they believe contributed to his decision to die by suicide. However, the allegations are currently being investigated by police, and their validity will be established only after the investigation is completed.

Father Questions Why Accused Have Not Been Arrested

Sahil’s father, Ravindra Wokade, questioned the police action and asked why the named accused had not been arrested despite the family having evidence related to the case.

He has alleged that professors Suryanarayan Dula and Shirish Kedare subjected Sahil to alleged caste-based discrimination and harassment that contributed to his suicide. The family has demanded immediate action against both faculty members.

‘He Was Crying When We Spoke on the Phone’

Speaking to the media, Sahil’s father also recalled his last conversation with his son. He said Sahil was crying during the phone call and allegedly told him that he was being troubled because of caste-based discrimination.

According to the family, Sahil’s conversations and other available material could be important to the investigation. His parents want the police to examine all these aspects thoroughly and take action against those found responsible.

Family Seeks Action from Crime Branch

Sahil’s parents visited the Mumbai Crime Branch on Tuesday and presented their complaint and allegations before the authorities, seeking action. They specifically called for the arrest of the named faculty members.

Given the sensitivity of the case, the investigation will need to examine the family’s allegations, available evidence, alleged conversations, and other relevant facts. At present, the allegations made by the family remain subject to investigation, and the legal responsibility of the accused will be determined through the investigative and judicial process.

Sahil Wokade’s death and the questions raised by his family have also renewed discussion about alleged discrimination against students in educational institutions and the mechanisms available for addressing student grievances. Further police investigation will determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and the extent to which the allegations are substantiated.
