BJP and Congress Step Up Preparations Ahead of Gujarat Elections, Focus on Resolving Internal Disputes

Ahmedabad, Gujarat

Ahead of next year’s Gujarat Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress have stepped up efforts to strengthen their organisations and resolve internal differences. Along with preparations for the elections, both major political parties are focusing on addressing disputes emerging within their respective organisations.

Amid internal disagreements, the BJP has replaced the district presidents of Bharuch and Narmada. Meanwhile, there are indications of dissatisfaction within the Congress involving the party’s lone Lok Sabha MP from Gujarat, Geniben Thakor. However, Thakor has said that she could not attend a recent meeting because of important work in Delhi.

BJP Replaces District Presidents in Bharuch and Narmada

The BJP is making organisational changes in Gujarat ahead of the Assembly elections. The party has removed the district presidents of Bharuch and Narmada from their positions. The move is reportedly linked to internal disputes within the party in the two districts.

Gujarat remains a politically important state for the BJP, which has been in power there for several years. As a result, resolving organisational differences before the Assembly elections is among the party’s priorities.

The BJP wants its grassroots organisation to remain fully active and united ahead of the elections. The changes in district leadership are being viewed as part of this strategy.

Signs of Discontent Involving Congress MP Geniben Thakor

Meanwhile, political discussions have intensified within the Congress over Banaskantha MP Geniben Thakor. The party’s state president recently dissolved the district executive committee that had reportedly been formed on the MP’s instructions.

Following this, Thakor’s absence from a meeting organised by Congress in-charge Randeep Surjewala regarding the upcoming Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation elections was viewed by some as a possible sign of dissatisfaction.

However, Geniben Thakor gave a different reason for her absence. She said she was unable to attend the meeting because she had important work in Delhi. Therefore, it would be premature to directly interpret her absence as a sign of discontent with the party.

Parties Seek to Strengthen Organisations Ahead of Diwali

Although the Gujarat Assembly elections are still some time away, both major parties have already begun their organisational preparations. While the BJP is making changes to address disputes at the district level, the Congress is also working on its organisational strategy and preparations for upcoming local elections.

Maintaining coordination within the Congress will be important as the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation elections and other political activities approach. At the same time, the BJP is seeking to strengthen coordination among its local leaders and workers.

Ahead of the Assembly elections, the biggest challenge for both parties will be to maintain organisational unity and resolve local-level differences in time. Further organisational changes and political developments within both parties could emerge in the coming days.
