The ongoing Russia-Ukraine war escalated once again as both sides carried out fresh attacks. During the night between Wednesday and Thursday, Russia launched large-scale aerial strikes on several Ukrainian cities, killing at least six people and injuring around 40 others. In retaliation, a Ukrainian drone attack in Russia’s Bryansk region killed two people. With both incidents combined, the total death toll has reached eight.
According to Ukrainian officials, three people were killed and several others injured in a Russian airstrike on the town of Balakliia in the Kharkiv region. Another three people lost their lives in the city of Sumy, where separate attacks also left 31 people injured. Meanwhile, six more people were wounded in a Russian drone strike in the Kherson region.
Reports indicate that Russia made extensive use of guided aerial bombs during the latest attacks. These precision-guided munitions are equipped with advanced navigation systems, allowing them to strike targets accurately from long distances. Military experts say these weapons are particularly difficult for existing air defense systems to intercept because of their high speed and precision. As a result, recent attacks have caused significant damage to civilian infrastructure and residential areas.
On the other hand, Ukraine launched a drone strike on Russia’s Bryansk region, killing two people. Russian authorities blamed Ukraine for the attack. In recent months, Ukraine has increased drone operations targeting Russian border regions and military installations, while Russia has continued launching missiles, drones, and guided bombs against cities across Ukraine.
As the war drags on, the humanitarian crisis continues to deepen. Millions of people have been displaced, and the safety of civilians remains one of the biggest concerns. The international community has repeatedly urged both countries to resolve the conflict through diplomatic negotiations, but no lasting ceasefire agreement has been reached so far.
Defense analysts believe that the increasing use of advanced weapons, including guided bombs and long-range drones, is making the conflict even more complex. Unless diplomatic efforts succeed, the intensity of aerial and drone attacks is likely to increase in the coming days, with civilians expected to bear the heaviest consequences.
