Opposition parties staged a march in the Parliament complex on Wednesday to protest against the alleged theft of offerings at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and police action against protesting students. The opposition MPs demanded that the central government establish accountability in both matters.
The march began at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the ‘Prerna Sthal’ in the Parliament complex and proceeded towards the Makar Dwar of the Parliament building. During the march, opposition MPs raised slogans while carrying a large banner that read, “Amit Shah, Answer Us.”
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, senior Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav, and several MPs from various opposition parties participated in the protest.
During the march, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that in a democracy, those in power are accountable to the people. She said that if pellet guns, tear gas, and lathi charges were used against protesting students, those responsible should be held accountable.
Priyanka Gandhi said, “This is a democracy, not a dictatorship. If force was used, someone must have ordered it, and responsibility must also be determined. This is the democratic tradition of the country.”
Opposition parties have alleged that the central government is avoiding answering questions regarding the alleged theft of offerings at the Ram Temple and police action against students. Over the past several days, opposition MPs have continued to protest in the Parliament complex over these issues.
