Amid the ongoing dispute over organizational control of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), the Election Commission of India has not issued any interim order for the time being. TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee provided the information on Sunday. Following the Commission’s current position, TMC candidates will be able to contest the upcoming by-elections using the party’s existing election symbol.
The Election Commission has given the faction led by Mamata Banerjee until September 16 to submit additional documents. If necessary, the matter may be taken up for a hearing on September 17. The Commission’s move indicates that there is no immediate change to the party’s election symbol at this stage.
Dispute Over Organizational Control
A dispute has emerged within the Trinamool Congress over control of the party’s organization. One faction is led by former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while the other is headed by rebel leader Ritabrata Banerjee.
Representatives of both sides met Election Commission officials separately on Saturday. Following the meetings, the Commission asked the faction led by Mamata Banerjee to provide additional documents and information.

TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee posted on social media platform X that the Election Commission had not issued any interim order. He said the concerned side had been directed to complete the required process on September 16 and 17.
Based on this, Kalyan Banerjee said that TMC candidates would contest the upcoming by-elections using the party’s existing election symbol.
When a dispute arises within a political party over its organizational control and election symbol, the Election Commission’s decision becomes particularly significant. Consequently, political circles are closely watching the next hearing and developments in the TMC case.
For now, the Commission has not delivered a final decision. The situation is expected to become clearer after the submission and examination of the additional documents. Until then, TMC candidates will be able to contest the by-elections under the party’s existing election symbol.
