Moderate Earthquake Shakes Himachal Pradesh; Tremors Felt in Neighboring States

In the late evening of Monday, a moderate earthquake struck the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, shaking several districts and causing tremors to be felt across neighboring states. According to the meteorological office, the earthquake occurred at 10:04 pm near the Kangra-Chamba border, with its epicenter located close to Dhar Godoi in the Kangra district.
The quake registered a shallow depth of just 5 kilometers and was situated approximately 40 kilometers from Dharamsala, a well-known city in Himachal Pradesh. This proximity to populated areas meant that residents experienced noticeable shaking, leading to temporary anxiety and precautionary measures in several communities.
Local authorities responded promptly, with disaster management teams monitoring the situation to assess any damages or aftershocks. As of now, no significant casualties or infrastructure damages have been reported, but officials are urging residents to remain alert and prepared for any possible follow-up tremors.
Experts explain that earthquakes of this magnitude and shallow depth can be felt over a wide area, which explains why the tremors were noticed not only in Himachal Pradesh but also in adjoining states such as Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Jammu
