Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. A gang allegedly cheating Agniveer recruitment candidates by promising to help those who failed their re-medical examination has been exposed following information provided by Military Intelligence. Cantonment Police arrested Rajesh Tiwari in connection with the case, while his alleged associate, Gajendra Singh, remains absconding. Police are searching for the second accused.
According to the police, the accused allegedly targeted candidates who had failed during the medical or re-medical stage of the Agniveer General Duty recruitment process. Taking advantage of their desire to join the Army and their hope of clearing the re-medical examination, the gang members allegedly lured them into the scam.
The investigation revealed that arrested accused Rajesh Tiwari allegedly introduced himself as a retired havildar of the Indian Army. By claiming an association with the Army, he allegedly attempted to gain the trust of candidates and their family members. He would then allegedly assure them of clearing the re-medical examination in exchange for thousands of rupees.
The accused allegedly collected amounts ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000 from different candidates. They reportedly claimed to have contacts within the Army and the recruitment process and allegedly assured candidates that payment would help them clear the re-medical examination.
After Military Intelligence received information about the alleged fraud network, Cantonment Police were alerted. Acting on the information, police arrested Rajesh Tiwari. During a search, police recovered an allegedly fake stamp, a mobile phone and a register containing details of candidates.
According to the police, an examination of the accused’s mobile phone revealed evidence allegedly related to the collection of Rs 40,000 from one candidate. The information recorded in the recovered register is also being investigated to identify other possible victims and determine the role of additional accused.
Police are now investigating how many candidates were allegedly cheated by Rajesh Tiwari and Gajendra Singh and how widely the network may have operated. Efforts are continuing to arrest the absconding accused.
Cantonment Police said that further investigation is underway and additional action will be taken based on the facts that emerge during the probe.
