Major Changes From LPG to Milk and Airports: What Changes From September 1?

New Delhi, India

The month of September is bringing several important changes in India that may affect people’s daily lives, household budgets, travel plans and financial compliance.

As August comes to an end, September 1, 2026, brings a number of changes involving LPG, milk prices, international air travel and financial deadlines. However, it is important to note that not every change being discussed as a “September 1 rule” actually takes effect on that date. Some important deadlines ended on August 31, while certain banking changes will begin in October.

Highlights

  • LPG prices may be revised at the beginning of September.
  • Mumbai’s wholesale price of fresh buffalo milk will increase by ₹9 per litre from September 1.
  • International passengers departing from India will no longer need to get their boarding passes stamped at immigration.
  • LPG e-KYC and certain ITR filing deadlines ended on August 31.
  • New RBI rules related to fixed deposits will come into effect from October 1, not September 1.

LPG Prices May Change

Oil marketing companies periodically review LPG prices, including at the beginning of a new month. Therefore, LPG prices may be revised from September 1. However, the new rate should be considered confirmed only after the oil marketing companies officially announce it.

Any increase or decrease in LPG prices can directly affect household budgets. The same monthly review mechanism can also affect fuel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices.

Mumbai Milk Prices to Rise by ₹9 Per Litre

People purchasing fresh buffalo milk supplied by dairy farms in Mumbai will see higher prices from September 1. The wholesale price has been increased from ₹93 to ₹102 per litre, a rise of ₹9 per litre. The revised wholesale rate is expected to remain in effect until February 28, 2027.

However, the ₹9 increase applies to the wholesale rate. Consumers may not necessarily see an identical ₹9 increase in the retail price because the final price can vary depending on suppliers and retailers.

No More Boarding Pass Stamps at Immigration

International passengers departing from India will see a change at airports from September 1. Travellers will no longer need to get their boarding passes stamped at immigration counters.

Passengers can show an electronic boarding pass on their mobile phones or use a printed boarding pass. Immigration officials will no longer place a stamp on the boarding pass. The move is aimed at simplifying and speeding up the departure process.

LPG e-KYC Deadline Ended on August 31

For LPG consumers who were required to complete Aadhaar-based e-KYC, the deadline ended on August 31, 2026. Consumers who had not completed the required verification were advised to complete the process to avoid potential issues related to their LPG connection or benefits.

Therefore, LPG e-KYC should not technically be described as a new rule beginning on September 1; the key date was August 31.

Important ITR Deadline Also Ended on August 31

For taxpayers with business or professional income whose accounts do not require an audit, the deadline for filing ITR for Assessment Year 2026-27 was August 31, 2026. The deadline primarily applies to eligible taxpayers filing ITR-3 and ITR-4. Those who miss the deadline may still be able to file a belated return subject to applicable rules and charges.

New FD Rules Will Start From October 1

There has also been confusion about new fixed deposit rules supposedly taking effect from September 1. The revised Reserve Bank of India framework on interest rates for bank deposits will actually come into effect from October 1, 2026, not September 1.

The revised framework includes provisions relating to bulk deposits of ₹3 crore and above. Therefore, ordinary FD investors do not need to take action based on claims that a new RBI FD rule begins on September 1.

What Will Affect You From September 1?

The most notable changes actually taking effect on September 1 include the increase in Mumbai’s wholesale fresh buffalo milk price and the removal of the boarding-pass stamping requirement for international departures from India. LPG prices may also be revised, but the exact September rate depends on the official announcement by oil marketing companies.

Meanwhile, LPG e-KYC and certain ITR deadlines were August 31 deadlines, while the revised FD framework begins October 1.

Therefore, consumers should check the actual effective date of each change rather than assuming that every rule described as a “September 1 change” begins on the first day of the month.
