India and Vietnam on Wednesday reiterated their commitment to further strengthening defence cooperation under the framework of their enhanced comprehensive strategic partnership. The two sides also exchanged views on shared regional and international security issues during a high-level defence dialogue.
The meeting was held between Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh and General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Minister of National Defence.
The Indian Embassy in Hanoi said on social media platform X that the two leaders reviewed the positive progress made in India-Vietnam defence cooperation. Particular emphasis was placed on further strengthening cooperation between the air forces of the two countries, capacity building, and professional exchanges.
The meeting also included discussions on common regional and global security concerns. Both sides reiterated their shared commitment to deepening defence cooperation between India and Vietnam.
Earlier on Tuesday, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh paid tribute at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in Hanoi. He then visited Regiment 927 of the 371 Air Division of the Vietnam People’s Air Force, where he met senior officials and fighter pilots. During the visit, he was briefed on the regiment’s operational capabilities and training arrangements.
According to the Indian Embassy, the visit is an important step toward further strengthening the growing defence cooperation between India and Vietnam.
Air Chief Marshal AP Singh is on a three-day official visit to Vietnam that began on Monday. Upon his arrival in Hanoi, he was welcomed by India’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Sherring W. Sherpa, and the two discussed bilateral relations between the two countries.
During the visit, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh received a formal welcome from the Air Defence-Air Force Service of the Vietnam People’s Army. He subsequently held bilateral talks with Lieutenant General Vu Hong Son, Commander of Vietnam’s Air Defence-Air Force Service. The discussions focused on reviewing existing defence cooperation and exploring new areas for future collaboration.
