India registered a dominant victory over the West Indies in the first ODI, powered by magnificent centuries from Virat Kohli and captain Shubman Gill. In the match played on Sunday at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, India defeated the West Indies by eight wickets.
Chasing a target of 296 runs, India comfortably reached the total in just 41.4 overs, losing only two wickets.
The West Indies had posted 295 runs for seven wickets in their allotted 50 overs after opting to bat first. In reply, India’s batters adopted an aggressive approach from the beginning and chased down the target with considerable ease.
Rohit Sharma Provides a Fast Start
India got off to a solid start in the chase, with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill putting together a 74-run opening partnership.
Rohit Sharma scored 32 runs off 35 balls before being caught and dismissed after the powerplay. However, his departure did little to slow down India’s scoring rate.
Virat Kohli then joined captain Shubman Gill at the crease. The pair took control of the innings, putting sustained pressure on the West Indies bowlers and consistently finding boundaries and scoring opportunities.

Virat Kohli once again showcased his class with a magnificent century. He remained unbeaten on 139 runs, guiding India to victory and finishing the chase in style.
Kohli displayed excellent control throughout his innings and played a series of attacking shots against the West Indies bowling attack. His experience proved crucial as India successfully chased the sizeable target.
Captain Shubman Gill Also Scores a Century
Captain Shubman Gill also produced an outstanding performance, scoring a century worth 110 runs. Gill combined effectively with Kohli to strengthen India’s position and turn what initially appeared to be a challenging target into a comfortable chase.
The partnership between Gill and Kohli put the West Indies bowlers under sustained pressure and effectively took the game away from the visitors.
