IND vs SL: Yashasvi Jaiswal Achieves Major Feat, 30 Tests at 30 Different Grounds; Joins Sachin Tendulkar’s Elite Club

Galle, Sri Lanka

Indian opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal achieved a rare milestone in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. The Galle Test is the 30th Test match of his career and also the 30th different ground where he has played Test cricket. With this achievement, Jaiswal has joined an elite group featuring Indian cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and Sanjay Manjrekar.

Jaiswal made his Test debut against the West Indies in July 2023. In just three years, he has reached the landmark of 30 Test matches. The most remarkable aspect is that he has played each of these 30 Tests at a different venue. With his appearance in Galle, the number of Test venues on his career list also reached 30.

The achievement is particularly significant for India because Jaiswal is only the third Indian cricketer to reach this milestone. Before him, Sachin Tendulkar and Sanjay Manjrekar had played their first 30 Tests at 30 different venues.

From Dominica to Galle

Jaiswal’s Test journey began in Dominica in the West Indies. Since then, he has played Test cricket in several Indian cities as well as at historic venues in Australia and England. Galle became the 30th venue on his list.

Playing Test cricket at a different venue almost every time is a major challenge for any batter. Pitch conditions, weather, bowling conditions and the overall atmosphere can vary significantly from one ground to another. Jaiswal’s ability to adapt to different venues reflects his growing international experience.

Unfortunate Run-Out Amid the Record

Despite achieving the milestone, Jaiswal could not convert his appearance in Galle into a big innings. He was run out for 37 runs in India’s first innings.

His dismissal came after an unusual sequence of events. KL Rahul played a shot, and a Sri Lankan bowler attempted to stop the ball with a dive. During the attempt, the bowler collided with Jaiswal, causing the Indian batter to fall to the ground.

Meanwhile, Rahul reached the opposite end. The situation resulted in both Indian batters being at the same end of the pitch. Sri Lanka took advantage of the opportunity and completed the run-out, sending Jaiswal back to the pavilion. The unusual dismissal also generated considerable discussion among cricket fans.

India Gets a Strong Start

Despite Jaiswal’s dismissal, India produced a strong batting performance on the opening day of the Galle Test. Devdutt Padikkal scored an impressive century, while India finished the day at 288/2.

For Jaiswal, the Test will remain memorable despite his dismissal for 37. His record of playing 30 Tests at 30 different venues places him among a select group of Indian cricketers.

Having his name associated with a record shared by a legendary batter like Sachin Tendulkar is a significant achievement for the young cricketer. With a long career ahead of him, Jaiswal has plenty of opportunities to create more milestones in the years to come.

For now, the record created in Galle stands as another major marker of Jaiswal’s rapidly developing Test career.
