New Delhi, Delhi
Sarfaraz Khan has made his return to the Indian Test team after nearly two years. He has been included in India’s squad for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, replacing Sai Sudharsan. The Test series between India and Sri Lanka is scheduled to begin on August 15, 2026.
To earn his way back into the national team, Sarfaraz worked extensively on his fitness and game over the past one-and-a-half years. He reportedly lost around 17 kilograms and also underwent intensive training in Kashmir to sharpen his batting.
Trained in Kashmir
Due to difficulties in maintaining regular practice in Mumbai because of the rains, Sarfaraz Khan travelled to Kashmir. He spent time training at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium, where he worked on his batting technique and overall approach.
Sarfaraz’s efforts were not limited to improving his fitness. Along with working on his batting, he placed considerable emphasis on his physical conditioning. Losing around 17 kg over approximately 18 months highlights the extent of his fitness transformation.
Returns to Test Team After Nearly Two Years
Sarfaraz Khan last represented India in Test cricket nearly two years ago. Since then, he has continued working on his game and fitness while trying to earn another opportunity at the international level.
He has now been included in India’s squad for the Test series against Sri Lanka. With Sarfaraz replacing Sai Sudharsan, he has once again received an opportunity to prove himself in international cricket.
To regain the selectors’ confidence, Sarfaraz consistently worked on his fitness, training and batting technique. His training stint in Kashmir was also part of that preparation.
Sarfaraz will now look to turn the opportunity against Sri Lanka into a strong performance. After a long wait to return to India’s Test squad, the series could be an important opportunity for him to strengthen his position in the team through his performances.
