A diamond theft case in Botad, Gujarat, has been solved by police within a remarkably short period. Diamonds worth ₹43.11 lakh were allegedly stolen from a businessman’s office at the Neelam Diamond Market. The theft was reportedly carried out by a woman disguised as a beggar. With the help of CCTV footage, police solved the case and arrested three suspects within just seven hours.
According to police, the theft took place on Sunday afternoon at the Neelam Diamond Market in Botad. A woman allegedly entered the office of diamond trader Ashokbhai Kankotiya through the rear entrance.
CCTV footage reportedly showed the woman entering the office at 1:09 p.m. Around 14 minutes later, she was seen leaving the premises carrying a packet.
After discovering the theft, the businessman inspected the office and informed police. He reportedly found that the lock of a table drawer had been opened and a packet containing diamonds was missing.
According to the businessman, the packet contained approximately 1,437 carats of diamonds, valued at around ₹43.11 lakh.
CCTV Footage Becomes Key Lead for Police
Following the complaint, the Botad district police immediately launched an investigation. Given the seriousness of the case, a team from Ahmedabad Rural Police was also involved in the investigation.
Police examined CCTV recordings from the office as well as cameras installed in the surrounding area. Investigators traced the woman’s movements and attempted to identify the suspects based on their movements before and after the incident.
During the investigation, police reportedly obtained several leads that helped them identify and locate the suspects. A joint team subsequently took action and arrested three people.
Stolen Diamonds Recovered Within Seven Hours
Police recovered the stolen diamonds from the possession of the arrested suspects. The case was reportedly solved within approximately seven hours of the theft being reported.
Police are now questioning the accused to determine who planned the theft and whether additional individuals were involved alongside the woman who allegedly entered the office.
CCTV footage and other evidence are also being examined as part of the investigation. Authorities are continuing their interrogation to establish the exact roles of the accused and uncover the full conspiracy behind the theft.
The incident has once again highlighted the importance of robust security arrangements and CCTV surveillance in business offices, particularly in areas dealing with high-value goods such as diamonds.
