The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made a major change regarding the final of the prestigious Duleep Trophy 2026-27. The venue for the title clash has been shifted from Bengaluru to Chennai. The Duleep Trophy final will now be played at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, with the match scheduled from September 6 to September 10.

The primary reason behind the decision is the presence of spectators. Earlier, the entire Duleep Trophy tournament was scheduled to be held at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. However, restrictions on public entry at the Centre of Excellence meant that cricket fans would not have been able to attend the final. As a result, the BCCI decided to move the final to a regular cricket stadium.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia had earlier clarified that government restrictions prevent spectators from entering the Centre of Excellence premises, and the board cannot violate those regulations. He had also indicated that another venue could be considered for the final. The BCCI has now implemented that plan by awarding the hosting rights to Chennai.

The new season of the Duleep Trophy will begin on August 23. The quarter-finals will be played from August 23 to August 26, while the semi-finals are scheduled from August 30 to September 2 at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. These matches will be played without spectators. The final will then take place at Chennai’s M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, where cricket fans will be able to watch the match from the stands.

Hosting the final in Chennai will give domestic players an opportunity to showcase their abilities in front of a large crowd at a major cricket venue. The match will be particularly important for players who are competing for a place in the Indian national team.

The BCCI has also expanded live coverage of domestic cricket this season. All matches of the Duleep Trophy are expected to be live-streamed, allowing fans who cannot attend the stadium to follow the action.
