A shocking murder case in Delhi’s Sangam Vihar area has left investigators stunned. According to police, 55-year-old Munna Lal was allegedly killed as part of a conspiracy planned by his wife, Manju alias Nazia, along with her alleged lover, Chaman, after 22 years of marriage. Police have said that the alleged motive behind the crime was an intention to gain control over property.
Manju and Chaman have been arrested in connection with the case, while Chaman’s friend Kishan has been detained on allegations of helping the accused hide after the murder.
According to police, Chaman had allegedly been promised ₹5 lakh for carrying out the killing. He was reportedly paid ₹20,000 in advance. After the murder, the accused allegedly attempted to mislead investigators by creating a false impression that a theft had taken place inside the house and deliberately scattering belongings.
Munna Lal Was Found in a Pool of Blood
Police received information early Monday morning that a man was lying injured and covered in blood on Ratia Marg. Officers reached the spot and took Munna Lal to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where doctors declared him dead.
Police subsequently registered a case and launched an investigation.
Munna Lal’s wife, Manju, initially told police that the house had been burgled. Investigators examined the possibility of a robbery, but evidence from the crime scene and surrounding area raised doubts about the version of events.
Masked Man Seen on CCTV
Police examined CCTV footage from cameras installed in the surrounding area. The footage allegedly showed a masked man entering the house at around 1:45 a.m. on Sunday night and leaving at approximately 3:15 a.m.
During the investigation, police identified the man as Chaman. The focus of the probe then shifted toward the relationship between Manju and Chaman.
Police also examined Manju’s call detail records. According to investigators, Chaman allegedly called Manju 65 times on the night of the incident. This reportedly strengthened the police’s suspicions. Following questioning, police arrested both Manju and Chaman.
Allegation of Killing After Giving Sleeping Pills
According to police, Chaman had allegedly arranged sleeping pills. Investigators allege that the pills were mixed into Munna Lal’s food. After he fell into a deep sleep, the accused allegedly attacked him.
Police claim that Munna Lal was beaten with sticks during the attack. Investigators have also alleged that a rope was used to strangle him and that an electric shock was administered.
After the incident, the accused allegedly attempted to clean blood stains and scatter household belongings in an effort to make the killing appear to have occurred during a burglary.
22-Year Marriage and Three Children
According to police, Manju and Munna Lal had been married for around 22 years and had two daughters and one son. Munna Lal was reportedly involved in property-related work.
Police have said that dissatisfaction over property and financial matters may have been a factor in the alleged conspiracy.
During this period, Manju allegedly developed a close relationship with Chaman, who worked at a nearby shop. Investigators are treating this relationship as a key element in the alleged murder conspiracy.
At the time of the incident, other family members were reportedly sleeping in a different part of the house and therefore did not immediately become aware of what had allegedly happened.
Police Continuing Further Investigation
Police have arrested Manju and Chaman and reportedly recovered ₹15,000 from their possession. The role of Chaman’s friend Kishan is also being investigated.
Investigators are now examining the items allegedly used in the murder, financial transactions, communication between the accused, attempts to destroy or conceal evidence after the incident, and any disputes related to property.
Police said the allegations and evidence collected during the investigation will be presented before the court, and further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
