Lahaul-Spiti, Himachal Pradesh: A cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul-Spiti district has caused extensive damage in the Munchi Nala and Chapore Nala areas, disrupting connectivity and affecting agricultural land, standing crops and livestock.
The intense flow of water following the cloudburst reportedly washed away the bridge over Munchi Nala, cutting off the usual route across the stream. The destruction has created significant difficulties for residents, particularly farmers who depend on the crossing to reach their fields.
The sudden rise in water levels also damaged irrigation channels, water pipelines, a drinking-water storage tank and roads in the affected area.
Munchi Nala Bridge Washed Away
The bridge over Munchi Nala was reportedly completely washed away by the powerful water flow.
With the bridge destroyed, the regular crossing has become inaccessible. Residents who live or farm on the other side of the nala are now facing difficulties reaching their properties and transporting essential supplies and agricultural produce.
The disruption is particularly serious for local farmers because a significant portion of agricultural land lies across the nala.
Agricultural Land and Crops Damaged
The force of the water reportedly altered the flow of the nala in some areas, sending water towards nearby agricultural fields.

Livestock Stranded Across the Nala
The destruction of the bridge has created another serious problem for local villagers, with some cattle and other livestock reportedly stranded on the opposite side of the nala.
Because the regular crossing has been washed away and water continues to pose a danger, bringing the animals back safely has become difficult.
Livestock plays an important role in the livelihoods of many rural families in the mountainous region, making the situation particularly concerning for affected households.
