Chennai witnessed a proud moment on May 25 when 16-year-old Nisha Sasikumar successfully scaled the summit of Mt. Everest, the world’s highest peak standing at 8,848.86 metres. Nisha reached the top at the remarkable age of 16 years and 80 days, marking a significant achievement in mountaineering and inspiring many young adventurers around the globe.
Nisha was part of an expedition organised by Elite Exped, a reputed mountaineering group known for training and guiding climbers to conquer some of the most challenging peaks worldwide. The expedition was meticulously planned and executed, with a focus on safety, training, and acclimatisation to the extreme altitudes.
The journey to the summit began several weeks earlier, with the team undergoing rigorous preparation and multiple acclimatisation climbs to adjust to the high-altitude conditions. Nisha’s physical endurance, mental strength, and unwavering determination played a crucial role in her ascent, allowing her to overcome the many hardships encountered en route to the summit.
At 16, Nisha joins the list of youngest climbers to have reached Everest’s peak, setting a new benchmark for aspiring mountaineers, especially women in India.
