Gudivada Amarnath, former Minister, has accused the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government of misappropriating credit for the Kadapa Steel Plant project. According to Amarnath, the primary work regarding the plant was undertaken by the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government, which had taken significant steps to progress the project well before the NDA’s recent involvement.

In a detailed statement, Amarnath highlighted that the YSRCP administration had already allotted nearly 3,000 acres of land for the steel plant, sanctioned the necessary water and power resources, and issued the Government Order (GO) in 2022. This administrative groundwork, he stated, laid a solid foundation for the plant’s development, contrary to the current claims made by the NDA government.

The former Minister emphasized that the efforts of the YSRCP government had been pivotal in bringing the project to its current stage. “We ensured that every crucial approval, be it land allocation or infrastructure support like water and power, was obtained on time,” Amarnath remarked. He added that the NDA’s revival of the project this year was based on the groundwork accomplished by the previous government rather than any new initiative by them.

Amarnath’s accusations come amid ongoing political debates and competition between the regional YSRCP and the central NDA government. The steel plant, seen as a critical industrial development for the region, has been a talking point, with both parties eager to showcase their roles in its progress.

Local stakeholders and industry experts have also weighed in, acknowledging the complexity of large-scale projects that span multiple government terms. They suggest that while policy continuity is essential, credit must be fairly assigned based on actual contributions over time.

In response, representatives from the NDA government have maintained that their efforts deserve recognition for reinvigorating the stalled project and driving it forward. However, critics argue that without the groundwork laid by the YSRCP, recent advancements would not have been possible.

The Kadapa Steel Plant project remains closely watched by citizens and investors alike, with its successful implementation expected to bolster regional economic growth and employment.

As the political tussle continues, it underscores the importance of transparency and factual reporting in public infrastructure initiatives to ensure that the rightful efforts of governing bodies are acknowledged.
