Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh
The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani has announced significant financial relief for students. Starting in 2027, the institute will offer a 100% tuition fee waiver for four years to eligible students who secure a rank within the top 1,000 in its entrance examination. The scheme will benefit students whose annual family income is up to ₹20 lakh.
The announcement was made by BITS Pilani Group Vice-Chancellor V. Ramgopal Rao. He stated that the objective of the new scholarship scheme is to provide talented students with better opportunities for higher education and ensure that financial constraints do not affect their academic journey.
Maintaining a Minimum CGPA of 7.5 Is Mandatory
Students will have to meet certain eligibility conditions to receive the scholarship. Along with securing a position within the top 1,000 ranks in the entrance examination, their annual family income must not exceed ₹20 lakh.
Additionally, students will be required to maintain a minimum CGPA of 7.5 throughout their studies. The full tuition fee waiver will continue for four years only if students maintain the prescribed academic performance.
Admission Through BITSAT
Admission to integrated first-degree undergraduate programmes at BITS Pilani is conducted through the Birla Institute of Technology Admission Test (BITSAT).
BITSAT is a computer-based online entrance examination through which students are admitted to courses such as Bachelor of Engineering (BE), Master of Science (MSc) and Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm).
Scholarship Details to Be Included in the Admission Offer
According to the Group Vice-Chancellor, scholarship eligibility and details will be included directly in the admission offer issued to students. Therefore, eligible candidates will not need to submit a separate application for the scholarship after securing admission.
This decision is expected to help academically talented students from eligible income groups pursue higher education. It will particularly benefit students who perform well in entrance examinations but are concerned about high tuition fees due to their family’s financial circumstances.
