First Glimpse of India’s First Indigenous Bullet Train Revealed; Preparations Underway for Speeds of 280 Kmph

Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh

India’s first indigenously designed bullet train has reached the next stage of development. The high-speed train is being manufactured at BEML’s production facility in Bengaluru. Extensive structural tests are being conducted to ensure the strength and durability of the train’s body. On Sunday, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a video on social media, offering the first glimpse of the upcoming train.

The indigenous B28 trainset is being developed through a collaboration between Integral Coach Factory (ICF) and BEML. It has been designed to operate at a maximum speed of 280 kilometres per hour. Track trials are expected to begin by mid-2027.

Structure Being Developed According to International Standards

During his inspection of the manufacturing facility, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw explained various components of the train. He stated that the entire structure, including the roof, side panels, walls and driver’s cabin, has been designed in accordance with international standards.

The train is undergoing specialised tests to ensure that it can withstand pressure and other challenges associated with high-speed operations. These include a squeeze test, which evaluates the structural strength and pressure-bearing capacity of the train.

Piyush Goyal Also Shares Video

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has also shared a separate video showcasing the manufacturing process of the train’s side panels.

Earlier, in October, the Railway Minister had announced that the first body frame of the B28 train had been completed and structural testing was underway.

The B28 project is considered an important step towards developing indigenous high-speed rail technology in India. Following this project, the government is also planning to develop the B35 trainset, which is designed to achieve a maximum speed of 350 kilometres per hour.
