The Indian women’s cricket team delivered a dominant performance against Zimbabwe in the third and final T20 match held at Raipur, securing a comprehensive 92-run victory. This win completed a clean sweep for India, taking the three-match T20 series 3-0. Harmanpreet Kaur made a stunning comeback, scoring an unbeaten 91 runs off just 41 balls, showing aggressive strokeplay throughout the innings.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s Emotional Return
Harmanpreet Kaur has faced a tough period recently with her batting struggling in the T20 Asia Cup, played on slow pitches, and limited opportunities during the Asian Games, which saw India clinch gold. She also stepped down from the captaincy before this series. However, she announced a powerful return to form on the Raipur ground, hitting boundaries with ease and anchoring the innings.
Following her explosive innings, Harmanpreet became visibly emotional during the innings break interview. She said, “Spending some time at the crease feels very good. I just wanted to enjoy my batting as much as possible and play a long innings.” Her heartfelt words were accompanied by tears, reflecting the pressure and relief she felt.
India Posts a Massive Total, Secures Convincing Win
In a strategic move, team captain Smriti Mandhana chose not to open the batting to allow other players time on the crease. Anushka Sharma was given the opening chance alongside Shafali Verma. The pair put on a solid foundation by scoring 54 runs within 32 balls. Shafali matched her consistency with a fiery 69 off 37 balls, including six fours and five sixes.
After Shafali’s dismissal, Harmanpreet took over with remarkable power hitting, smashing 10 fours and 5 sixes. India closed their innings with a formidable score of 216 runs for 7 wickets in their 20 overs. Zimbabwe struggled in reply, managing only 124 runs for 7 wickets during their innings.
The Indian bowling attack was impressive, with Nandini Sharma claiming three important wickets. Kranti Gauhar, Arundhati Reddy, Deepti Sharma, and Nikki Prasad also contributed by taking one wicket each. This dominant performance emphasized India’s superiority through the series.
Looking ahead, both teams will now prepare for their upcoming three-match ODI series, which starts on October 23 in Vadodara. India will hope to continue their momentum in the longer format of the game following their flawless T20 sweep.
The match highlighted India’s strong batting depth and efficient bowling, setting a high standard for their future encounters. The clean sweep reinforces India’s position as a dominant force in women’s cricket against Zimbabwe.
