7-Minute Cancer Shot Launched in India: New Hope for Lung Cancer Patients
Roche launches faster immunotherapy injection in India, reducing treatment time for lung cancer patients
In a major breakthrough for cancer treatment in India, Roche has launched a new 7-minute immunotherapy injection called subcutaneous Atezolizumab. The treatment is designed mainly for lung cancer patients and could significantly reduce hospital time compared to traditional intravenous (IV) therapy that usually takes 30 to 60 minutes.
Atezolizumab is an immunotherapy drug that helps the body’s immune system identify and fight cancer cells more effectively. The newly introduced injectable version offers faster administration, greater convenience, and improved patient comfort during treatment sessions.
However, the treatment comes at a high cost. Each dose is priced at approximately ₹3.7 lakh, and most patients may require around six doses depending on their medical condition and doctor’s recommendation. Despite the expense, oncologists believe the innovation could improve treatment accessibility and reduce pressure on hospital infusion facilities.
Experts say the launch marks another important step in advanced cancer care in India, especially for patients seeking quicker and more convenient therapy options.
