The Supreme Court has granted this limited relaxation keeping the Diwali celebrations in mind, but has also imposed several strict conditions. According to the court’s directions, firecrackers can be burst only between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM in the morning and 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM at night on November 7 and 8. The use of firecrackers outside these permitted hours will not be allowed.
Ban on Firecrackers Near Hospitals and Schools
The Supreme Court has issued strict directions regarding the use of firecrackers near sensitive locations. Bursting firecrackers will be completely prohibited within a 300-metre radius of hospitals, nursing homes, healthcare centres, old-age homes, schools and officially notified silent zones.
The objective of this restriction is to protect patients, elderly people, students and others from exposure to smoke and excessive noise.
Only Certified Green Firecrackers Allowed
The court has clarified that only certified green firecrackers will be permitted in Delhi-NCR. The use of conventional firecrackers will not be allowed. Anyone violating the prescribed timings or other guidelines may face legal action.
It is worth mentioning that Diwali will be celebrated on November 8 this year. The Supreme Court’s order therefore provides residents of Delhi-NCR with limited permission to burst firecrackers during the festival. However, the complete ban will be reinstated from November 9.
