PM Modi Congratulates Team Ahead of Vikram-1 Launch, Calls It a Historic Milestone for India’s Space Sector

India's first privately developed orbital launch vehicle Vikram-1 is set for launch from Sriharikota, marking a major step for the country's private space industry.

India is preparing to achieve another landmark in its space journey as Vikram-1, the country’s first privately developed orbital launch vehicle, is set for launch from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. Ahead of the mission, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the entire team and described the launch as a historic milestone for India’s rapidly expanding private space industry.

Developed by Skyroot Aerospace, Vikram-1 represents a major breakthrough for India’s commercial space ecosystem. The launch reflects the growing role of private companies in advancing space technology and strengthening the country’s capabilities in satellite launch services.

Prime Minister Modi shared his best wishes through social media, praising the scientists, engineers, and technical experts associated with the mission. He said the launch demonstrates India’s scientific strength, innovation, and the increasing contribution of startups in the space sector.

According to the mission schedule, Vikram-1 will lift off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. If successful, it will become India’s first privately built rocket to place satellites into orbit, opening new opportunities for domestic and international satellite launch customers.

Vikram-1 is a solid-fuel launch vehicle specifically designed to carry small satellites into low Earth orbit. With the global demand for affordable satellite launches growing rapidly, experts believe the mission could position India as a stronger player in the international commercial launch market.

The launch also highlights the success of the Indian government’s space-sector reforms, which have encouraged private participation through organizations such as IN-SPACe. These reforms have enabled startups like Skyroot Aerospace to develop advanced launch technologies and compete globally.

Space experts believe a successful Vikram-1 mission would boost investor confidence, accelerate innovation, and create new opportunities for India’s emerging space-tech startups while strengthening the country’s position in the global space economy.
