Geneva, Switzerland
India launched a strong attack on Pakistan at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), urging Islamabad to focus on its struggling economy and internal challenges instead of making territorial claims against others and supporting cross-border terrorism.
Indian diplomat Kshitij Tyagi questioned Pakistan’s policies, stating that terrorism and statements made on international platforms would not resolve the country’s economic problems. He said Pakistan needs to reassess its priorities and address its domestic challenges.
India also raised concerns over the human rights situation in parts of Jammu and Kashmir under Pakistan’s control. The Indian side alleged that the supply of essential items such as food, fuel, and medicines has been affected and that force has been used against peaceful protesters.
India once again made it clear that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of the country. It also reiterated its demand that Pakistan vacate the territories under its illegal occupation.
Pakistan Targeted Over Terrorism
India accused Pakistan of supporting terrorism and said its proxy networks have targeted people from different communities through violence. India also emphasized the need for the international community to take clear and effective action against terrorism.
Response on the Indus Waters Treaty
India also took a firm position on Pakistan’s claims concerning the Indus Waters Treaty. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal objected to Pakistan’s reference to a decision by an arbitration court in a letter circulated by Islamabad at the United Nations Security Council.
India said Pakistan has repeatedly attempted to present international legal processes and facts selectively in its favor. New Delhi also questioned the validity of the arbitration process in question.
India’s position once again highlighted the continuing differences between the two countries over issues including Jammu and Kashmir, terrorism, and the Indus Waters Treaty, with both sides continuing to raise these matters on international platforms.
