Supreme Court Takes Strict Stand on Crimes Against Women, Directs Delhi Police to Create Fear of Law Among Offenders

New Delhi, Delhi

The Supreme Court has taken a strict view of the rising incidents of crimes against women in Delhi. The court has directed the Delhi Police to take effective measures to prevent such crimes and create a sense of fear of the law among criminals and anti-social elements.

The Supreme Court observed that merely taking action after a crime has occurred is not enough to prevent crimes against women. Efforts must be made to prevent incidents before they occur. For this, the police need to strengthen surveillance and security measures at their level.

Focus on Making Women Feel Safe at All Times

The court advised the Delhi Police to adopt a strict approach and increase surveillance. The Supreme Court said that every girl and woman in Delhi should feel safe. The security environment should be such that women do not feel unsafe even while travelling or being outside at 10 or 11 p.m.

The court emphasized preventing the possibility of crime rather than focusing only on action after an incident has occurred. Active police surveillance and an effective security system were described as essential for achieving this objective.

Offenders Must Fear the Law

The Supreme Court made it clear that criminals and anti-social elements should have the apprehension that they will not be able to escape if they commit an offence. Effective police action and surveillance can help create an environment in which those involved in criminal activities are deterred by the law.

During the hearing concerning crimes against women, the court emphasized the responsibility of the police regarding security arrangements in Delhi. The court said that ensuring the safety of women and preventing crimes should be a priority.

The primary objective of the Supreme Court’s directions is to create a safer environment for women in Delhi and to emphasize prevention of crimes before they occur rather than relying solely on action after an incident.
