The Russia-Ukraine war has witnessed another major wave of drone attacks. According to Ukrainian officials, Russia launched drone strikes on the Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv regions on Monday. The attacks left five people injured, while a woman was killed in the Kharkiv region. Her 13-year-old son was reportedly seriously injured.
Ukrainian officials said the Russian strikes came after more than 1,000 drone attacks reportedly carried out by Ukrainian forces a day earlier. The continued escalation in drone warfare between the two countries has further intensified the dangers of the ongoing conflict.
Apartment Buildings and Shopping Mall Targeted in Zaporizhzhia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on social media on Monday that Russian drones targeted several locations in the city of Zaporizhzhia. The targets included an apartment building, a university, and a shopping mall.
Emergency and rescue operations were launched in the affected areas following the attacks. According to Ukrainian officials, five people were injured in the strikes in Zaporizhzhia. Security measures were also increased in the affected areas as authorities assessed the extent of the damage.
Zaporizhzhia is a strategically important region of Ukraine and has been repeatedly targeted by Russian attacks since the beginning of the war.
Woman Killed in Kharkiv
According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, Russian drones also struck a residential house in the Kharkiv region on Monday. A 45-year-old woman was killed in the attack.
Her 13-year-old son was seriously injured. Emergency response teams reached the site and carried out rescue and relief operations.
Kharkiv has remained one of the key areas affected by the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The city and surrounding areas have repeatedly faced missile and drone attacks.
Retaliatory Action After More Than 1,000 Ukrainian Drone Attacks
According to Ukrainian officials, the latest Russian strikes came a day after Ukrainian forces reportedly launched more than 1,000 drones against Russia. Russia subsequently carried out retaliatory strikes targeting various areas of Ukraine.
Both sides continue to use drones to target military and strategic positions. In recent months, drones have emerged as one of the most significant weapons in the ongoing war.
