Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will review the annual performance of the country’s 16 Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) today. The review will assess progress toward achieving self-reliance in defence production, developing indigenous technologies, promoting research and innovation, and increasing India’s defence exports.
The Ministry of Defence said that India’s defence sector is rapidly moving toward greater self-reliance. According to the ministry, a strong domestic defence industry is not only helping meet the country’s security requirements but is also strengthening India’s technological capabilities and position in the global defence sector.
During the review meeting, the heads of seven DPSUs will present dividend cheques to the Defence Minister against the government’s equity shares for the financial year 2025-26. The companies include Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), BEML, and Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI).
Rajnath Singh will also release four important books during the event. One of them, ‘Atmanirbhar DPSUs’, highlights the journey of Defence Public Sector Undertakings toward greater self-reliance. Another initiative, ‘DISHA’, aims to provide students with practical exposure to defence technologies and modern manufacturing processes.
The other two books are ‘HAL Modernisation Roadmap’ and ‘HAL Indigenisation Roadmap’. These publications will outline HAL’s future plans for enhancing its technological capabilities and production capacity.
According to the ministry, financial year 2025-26 was significant for the performance of DPSUs. The combined turnover of these companies stood at ₹1.29 lakh crore, registering a 15.4% increase compared with 2024-25. Defence exports also recorded a significant 151.2% increase during the period.
The government’s focus is now on sustaining this momentum and expanding the global reach of India’s indigenous defence products.
