Supreme Court Registry Identifies 10 Defects in Rahul Gandhi’s SIR Plea

The Supreme Court registry has raised over 10 issues in the petition filed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and others concerning alleged voter deletions and irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls.

Registry Highlights Multiple Defects

In New Delhi, the Supreme Court registry flagged more than 10 defects in the petition submitted by Rahul Gandhi and others regarding irregularities in the SIR. Among the noted defects, the registry requested a clear copy of the ID card of Congress president and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, who is one of the co-petitioners.

The registry also pointed out issues with illegible or missing pages in the petition and noted a shortfall of over Rs 200 in the court fee.

Opposition Leaders File the Petition

Rahul Gandhi and several opposition leaders marched to the apex court to file this petition on Monday, emphasizing their concerns over alleged large-scale voter deletions during the Special Intensive Revision process.

Demand for Independent Audit

The plea requests the formation of an independent committee led by a retired apex court judge, assisted by technical experts and eminent citizens. This committee is to conduct an independent audit within a fixed timeframe to examine deletions and modifications made during the SIR.
