Chandigarh, Punjab: The Punjab government has intensified its crackdown on drugs and gangsterism, claiming that action is also being taken against criminals hiding abroad. Aam Aadmi Party Punjab media in-charge Baltej Pannu said on Tuesday that the Punjab Police has so far brought back more than a dozen gangsters from different countries around the world.
Baltej Pannu said that since the Bhagwant Mann-led government came to power, tackling drugs and organised crime has remained a priority. He said the police have been equipped with modern technology and better resources, making it possible to take action against gangsters hiding overseas.
According to Pannu, the gangsters brought back to India include Sachin Bishnoi, Manpreet Singh alias Peeta, Ramanjeet Singh alias Romi, Parminder Singh alias Pindi, Anmol Bishnoi, Amritpal alias Mehro, Gurwinder Singh, and Jobandeep Singh alias Joban Billa.
Pannu said Anmol Bishnoi was brought back from the United States, Amritpal alias Mehro from Dubai, and Gurwinder Singh from Malaysia. He added that an Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) team recently brought Amritpal alias Amrit Dhalam back from Moldova.
He also referred to Karamveer Singh alias Karamveer Dev, who is reportedly considered close to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. According to Pannu, Karamveer Dev was deported from Canada and arrested at Delhi Airport. The process of bringing him to Punjab is currently underway.
Baltej Pannu said that fleeing abroad after committing crimes in Punjab can no longer be considered a safe option for criminals. He said the government’s objective is to dismantle criminal networks operating in Punjab and take strict action against those involved in organised crime.
The AAP leader also targeted the opposition, alleging that political considerations were being used to overlook the government’s action against gangsters and organised criminal networks.
