The Pakistan women’s cricket team began its Women’s Asia Cup 2026 campaign with a victory, defeating Thailand Women by 35 runs in their Group A encounter. Pakistan’s bowlers delivered an impressive performance to defend a modest total and secure two valuable points.
With the win, Pakistan moved into second place in the Group A standings behind India.
Pakistan captain Fatima Sana won the toss and elected to bat first. However, the team did not make an ideal start and lost an early wicket. Opener Muneeba Ali attempted to steady the innings and built a few useful partnerships with the middle-order batters.
Pakistan eventually managed to score 119 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs. Despite posting a relatively low total, Pakistan’s bowlers produced an outstanding performance and prevented Thailand’s batters from playing freely.
Pakistan Bowlers Put Thailand Under Pressure
Chasing 120 runs, Thailand struggled from the beginning. Pakistan’s bowlers picked up wickets at regular intervals, preventing Thailand from building momentum.
The Pakistani bowling attack maintained disciplined lines and lengths throughout the innings. Thailand’s batters found it difficult to score consistently, and the required run rate continued to rise as wickets fell.
Pakistan ultimately restricted Thailand and secured a 35-run victory, earning two points from the match.
Crucial Win Despite a Low Total
The victory is particularly significant for Pakistan because the team had failed to post a big score after being sent in to bat.
However, the bowling unit successfully defended the target and demonstrated the strength and depth of Pakistan’s attack. Their ability to put sustained pressure on Thailand proved decisive.
For Thailand, the match was a disappointing result. The team struggled against Pakistan’s disciplined bowling and failed to build the partnerships required to chase down the target.
Pakistan will now enter its next match with increased confidence following the victory. With India currently ahead and Pakistan occupying second place in Group A, the battle for the top position is expected to remain closely contested as the tournament progresses.
