The number of poor families in Himachal Pradesh has increased instead of declining, according to the latest government survey. Following the new survey, the total number of poor families in the state has risen from 2.66 lakh to around 2.87 lakh, an increase of approximately 21,000 families compared with the earlier figure.
The process of identifying eligible poor families was completed in nine stages based on the latest survey. In the ninth phase, around 1.09 lakh families were selected, taking the revised total number of poor families in the state to approximately 2.87 lakh.
1.50 Lakh Families Added to the Poor List for the First Time
One of the most significant findings in the latest figures is that around 1.50 lakh families have been included in the list of poor families for the first time. These families were not part of the previous list.
The government is now working to connect the newly identified families with various welfare schemes based on the survey findings. The objective is not merely to identify poor families but also to ensure that they receive the actual benefits of government programmes.
Plan to Link Families With Employment and Social Security Schemes
The government plans to provide selected families with access to employment, self-employment, housing, social security and other forms of government assistance, depending on their individual needs.
Authorities will assess the circumstances of the families identified through the survey and connect them with appropriate welfare schemes.
The increase in the number of poor families following the new survey has also sparked discussion about the current state of poverty in the state. The earlier figure stood at 2.66 lakh families, while the latest survey has increased the number to approximately 2.87 lakh.
Selection Process Completed in Nine Phases
The identification and selection of poor families in Himachal Pradesh was carried out in multiple phases. During the ninth phase, the selection of approximately 1.09 lakh families was completed.
