More Than 4,000 Tourist Vehicles Reach Manali Over the Weekend; Crowds Surge Amid Snow and Cold, Traffic Jams Worsen

Manali, Himachal Pradesh

Manali, one of Himachal Pradesh’s most popular tourist destinations, has once again been bustling with visitors during the weekend holiday. A large number of tourists from neighboring states, including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, have arrived in Manali. More than 4,000 tourist vehicles have reached the town over the past two days. The heavy influx has brought increased activity to the city, but the surge in vehicles has also resulted in traffic congestion on several major roads.

The weather in Manali has changed significantly following recent rain and snowfall. Temperatures have dropped, with the cold becoming more intense during the mornings, evenings and nights. Many tourists are heading to Manali to experience the cold weather and enjoy the snowfall.

Tourist activity has also increased in destinations across Lahaul-Spiti. Snow can be seen at several tourist spots in Lahaul, including Rohtang. The landscape transformed by the recent snowfall has become a major attraction for visitors.

Tourism Businesses Welcome the Surge

The large number of tourists arriving over the weekend has provided a boost to Manali’s tourism industry. Hotels have recorded occupancy levels of around 60 to 70 percent. The rise in tourist arrivals has brought relief and optimism among hoteliers and others associated with the tourism sector.

With tourist movement increasing, popular attractions and markets in Manali have also become busier. Visitors are enjoying the cold weather while also travelling toward Rohtang and tourist destinations in Lahaul-Spiti.

Increased Pressure on Roads

The heavy tourist influx has had a visible impact on Manali’s traffic system. Traffic congestion continued throughout the day in Manali town, along the Manali-Rohtang route and on the Left Bank Road. Queues of vehicles were also reported at several locations on Saturday morning.

With more than 4,000 tourist vehicles arriving over two days, pressure on major roads has increased considerably. The growing number of vehicles travelling toward tourist destinations has slowed traffic and caused inconvenience to commuters and visitors.

From the perspective of the tourism industry, however, the rise in tourist arrivals is being viewed positively. The drop in temperatures following rain and snowfall has created the cold-weather conditions that are attracting visitors to the region.

The growing influx of tourists into Manali and Lahaul-Spiti has accelerated tourism activity. Hotel occupancy of around 60 to 70 percent and the movement of thousands of tourist vehicles have provided relief to local businesses, while the large volume of traffic has simultaneously created a significant challenge for the region’s traffic management system.
