Indian cricket fans are in for a unique spectacle this September as Team India is expected to play an international series on home soil—but as the visiting side. According to media reports, Afghanistan will host a three-match T20 International series against India, with all matches scheduled to be played in New Delhi.

According to an ESPNcricinfo report, the three T20Is are likely to be held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on September 13, 15, and 17. However, neither the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) nor the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has officially confirmed the schedule or venue.

Afghanistan has been using India as its home venue for international matches for several years due to the security situation in Afghanistan, which has made it difficult to host international cricket regularly. India has consistently supported Afghan cricket by providing venues for its home fixtures. In the past, cities such as Dehradun, Lucknow, and Greater Noida have served as Afghanistan’s home grounds, while New Delhi is now expected to host the upcoming series.

Although the matches will be played in India, Afghanistan will officially be the host nation. This means the Afghanistan Cricket Board will retain hosting rights, broadcasting responsibilities, and other administrative control over the series, while India will participate as the visiting team.

The series is expected to be significant for both sides as they prepare for upcoming international tournaments and T20 competitions. India may use the opportunity to test emerging talent and strengthen its squad combinations, while Afghanistan will aim to challenge the hosts with its renowned spin attack and aggressive batting lineup.

Cricketing ties between India and Afghanistan have grown stronger in recent years, with several competitive encounters highlighting Afghanistan’s rapid rise in international cricket. The upcoming T20 series is therefore expected to provide exciting contests and attract considerable interest from fans.

Cricket enthusiasts are now awaiting an official announcement from the BCCI and the Afghanistan Cricket Board. If the reported schedule is confirmed, the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi will host the highly anticipated three-match T20I series between India and Afghanistan this September.
