IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert Across India; Mumbai, Himachal, Bihar & Northeast on High Alert

New Delhi | July 19: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy to extremely heavy rainfall warning for several parts of the country, urging residents to remain cautious as intense monsoon activity continues. States including Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, West Bengal, Sikkim, and the Northeast are expected to receive widespread rainfall over the next 24 hours.

According to the IMD, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim may witness extremely heavy rainfall, while thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely across parts of North, Central, East, and South India. Authorities have advised people living in low-lying and flood-prone areas to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.

Mumbai is expected to experience heavy showers that may lead to waterlogging and traffic disruptions. Himachal Pradesh remains vulnerable to landslides and flash floods due to continuous rainfall in hilly regions. Heavy rain has also been forecast for Bihar, Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir, where local administrations have been asked to monitor the situation closely.

Meanwhile, Delhi-NCR is likely to receive light rainfall, bringing temporary relief from the humid weather. Residents are advised to keep track of official weather updates and follow local advisories.

The IMD has urged citizens to exercise caution, especially in areas prone to flooding, landslides, and strong winds, as the active monsoon system is expected to persist over several regions.
