Himachal Government School Students Shine as 76 Qualify JEE Main, Bringing Pride to the State

Shimla, Himachal Pradesh

Students from government schools in Himachal Pradesh have delivered impressive performances in highly competitive examinations such as JEE Main and NEET, despite studying without expensive coaching or the facilities available in major cities. Their achievements have once again demonstrated that with proper guidance, hard work and opportunities, students from limited-resource backgrounds can also achieve significant success.

According to data from the Education Department, 76 students from government schools in the state qualified the JEE Main examination between the academic years 2021-22 and 2024-25. Of these, 45 students secured admission to various engineering colleges. Meanwhile, 12 students gained admission to NIT Hamirpur, while one student earned a place at an IIT.

Government school students have also demonstrated their talent in the medical field. During the same period, eight students secured admission to medical colleges. These achievements are being regarded as a major success for the state’s government school system.

To help students prepare for competitive examinations, the Education Department provided free coaching and guidance to students studying in government schools. The initiative was aimed at providing opportunities to students who could not afford admission to private coaching institutes due to financial constraints.

On the instructions of the Education Minister, the benefits received by students through this free facility over the past three years were reviewed. The review found that several government school students had successfully used the programme to qualify examinations such as JEE and NEET. The continued success of students has further strengthened the case for the usefulness of the initiative.

The Education Department is now preparing to honour these talented students. The objective is to publicly recognise their hard work and achievements so that other students can draw inspiration from their success.

Educationists believe that the success of government school students in competitive examinations will boost the confidence of students in rural and remote areas. It will also send a strong message that with proper academic support and guidance from dedicated teachers, students from government schools can also reach some of the country’s most prestigious institutions.
