The monsoon has once again become highly active across several parts of the country. Weather conditions have changed significantly across Delhi-NCR and many states in northern and central India. Several areas are witnessing strong winds and rainfall, while the weather department has issued Orange and Yellow alerts for heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds.
Dense and dark clouds have covered the skies over Delhi and nearby Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad since morning. Strong winds have brought a noticeable change in the weather, and rainfall is expected in several areas. Rain could bring down temperatures and provide relief from humid conditions. However, heavy and continuous rainfall may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas of Delhi.
According to the weather department, rain and thunderstorm warnings have been issued for nearly 25 states across the country. Heavy rainfall is expected in several parts of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.
Weather conditions are also expected to remain unsettled in West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Sikkim, and Nagaland. Some areas of Sikkim and Nagaland have been warned of heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms.
The impact of the monsoon may be particularly significant in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Several districts in both states have been issued warnings for heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Intense rain could cause waterlogging in low-lying areas, while rising water levels in some locations may also create flood-like conditions.
Authorities have advised people to exercise special caution during severe weather conditions. Due to the possibility of lightning strikes, people have been advised to avoid open areas. Residents have also been urged not to stand under trees or remain in open fields during heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Some parts of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Continuous rain could also affect road traffic and disrupt normal life.
Meanwhile, rainfall has significantly increased difficulties in the Himalayan states. Continuous rain in several parts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh has created a serious risk of landslides and ground subsidence. Falling rocks in mountainous regions may disrupt traffic on national highways and other connecting roads.
The weather department and disaster management authorities have advised people living near rivers and streams to remain alert. Tourists and local residents have been urged to avoid travelling to hilly regions unless absolutely necessary and to follow all warnings and advisories issued by the authorities.
