DNA Proof and Life Sentence in Renu Devi Murder Case After 2 Years

The Bhagalpur court has sentenced an accused to life imprisonment in the murder case of Renu Devi, which took place in 2023. The case shocked the local community after police discovered the headless body of a woman in a pit near Karmpur Jogiya pond in the Bypass police station area. The body bore multiple deep wounds caused by a sharp weapon. The victim’s head was missing, making identification very difficult for authorities.

Discovery and Identification

The victim was later identified as Renu Devi, a resident of Maheshpur in the Sanhoula block. Police launched a detailed investigation, gathering clues from the surrounding area. Approximately eight days after the body was found, the missing head was recovered from the same location. To confirm the identity, DNA testing was conducted by comparing the samples with blood from the victim’s mother. This scientific evidence conclusively identified the victim as Renu Devi, providing a crucial breakthrough in the investigation.

Initially, police suspected the victim had been killed brutally and the head removed to conceal her identity. The headless and severely wounded body raised the alarm across the area and intensified police efforts. The forensic findings and DNA evidence became vital parts of this complex case.

Case Details and Legal Outcome

Police investigations revealed that Renu Devi was married to Rajneesh Das in a love marriage. Rajneesh Das was reportedly already married. It is alleged that due to domestic disputes and other issues, Rajneesh Das, along with his family members, was involved in Renu Devi’s murder. After killing her, the accused buried her mutilated body near the pond.

The complaint was filed by Renu’s brother, Indra Kumar, which led to police action. Evidence and witness statements collected during the inquiry solidified the case. The discovery of the severed head and the subsequent DNA match played key roles in advancing the investigation.

After nearly two years of legal proceedings, the court convicted the accused and handed down a life sentence. Assistant Public Prosecutor Rajesh Kumar Singh stated that the court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000. Failure to pay this fine will result in an additional two months of imprisonment. The verdict marks an important step toward justice for Renu Devi’s family.

Throughout the investigation, scientific analysis and diligent police work were instrumental in resolving the case. Despite initial difficulties in identifying the victim, the combined efforts of authorities brought the accused to justice. The case highlighted the challenges faced by investigators in brutal crimes designed to conceal identity.

The two-year-long process and final judgment have been welcomed as a major breakthrough in the Bhagalpur area. The verdict has helped close a painful chapter for Renu Devi’s relatives and sent a strong message against domestic violence and brutal murders in the region.
